Dr. M. Daniel Bennett, Jr. is an interdisciplinary researcher with direct social work practice experience, who has developed an integrative framework for the study of chronic exposure to urban stress, violence and substance use among vulnerable, underserved populations in general, and African American males in particular. Dr. Bennett has initiated a program of research which addresses gaps in social work research and practice with African American males, and also incorporates an interdisciplinary focus which transcends social welfare policy and practice aimed at African American males, their families, communities, and the contextual environments in which they are situated. His findings have been presented at several professional research meetings as well as elite, senior interdisciplinary research conferences. These findings have been published in high impact social work research journals. He has served as an expert manuscript reviewer for social work and other disciplinary journals including Research on Social Work Practice, Urban Social Work, Criminology and Public Policy, and the Journal of Black Psychology. Dr. Bennett also co-edited a special issue of Research on Social Work Practice which focused on African American males.
