Samuel L. K. Baxter, PhD, MPH is committed to improving men’s health across the lifespan. He is a Postdoctoral Fellow in Public Health Sciences at Clemson University and directs a multiyear project funded by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). This work applies policy, systems, and environmental change approaches to reduce obesity in rural counties. His research focuses on the intersections of gender, race, and place to address cardiovascular health inequities. Dr. Baxter is experienced in using participatory strategies to include the lived experiences of diverse populations in research and intervention development, specifically Black men, rural adults, and under-resourced communities. He uses equity and ecological perspectives in teaching and research to understand social and structural causes of health disparities and identify multilevel interventions and policy solutions. He serves his home state as a member of the South Carolina Cancer Alliance’s Men’s Cancer Ad Hoc Committee. He earned his PhD in Health Policy and Management from the Gillings School of Global Public Health at UNC (Chapel Hill, NC) and an MPH from Morehouse School of Medicine (Atlanta, Georgia). Dr. Baxter is an alum of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s inaugural Health Policy Research Scholars Program (HPRS).
