A native New Yorker from Harlem and raised in the Bronx Tara Nelson is a social worker and Ph.D.
candidate at Yeshiva University School of Social Work. Tara is a Licensed Master Social Worker with over 16 years of experience working with various populations in New York City. Tara specializes in providing psychotherapy in an integrated healthcare setting to individuals with severe mental health disorders, marital issues, and various psychosocial stressors. Tara’s passion for work lies with Black men who suffer from racial trauma, or racial-based traumatic stress (RBTS) endured by racial bias and hate crimes. My role as a social scientist will be to research Black men and fill in the knowledge gap on the barriers Black men face in seeking mental health treatment.
