From: Columbus, OH
Education: Hanna received her Bachelor’s degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where she majored in Psychology and Neuroscience.
How she ended up here: Hanna has always been really interested in the University of Michigan and thought the research being done here was incredible. Therefore, she reached out to both Dr. Martin Sarter and Dr. Natalie Tronson, and after meeting them at the Society for Neuroscience conference, knew this was the place she needed to be in order to further her research.
Research interests: Generally, Hanna is interested in addiction and understanding the impact of cortical cholinergic input system on addiction-like behaviors.
What she’s studied in the past: While at Miami University, Hanna conducted research in behavioral neuroscience, with a focus on addiction and the long term effects of an opioid overdose and naloxone rescue on decision making.
What she’s studying now: At the University of Michigan, Hanna is studying the underlying mechanisms of dysregulation in the cortical cholinergic input system by investigating the neuroinflammatory responses in sign-trackers and goal-trackers, including elevated cytokine signaling.
Hobbies/Fun Facts: While at Miami University, Hanna was a varsity diver on the swim and dive team. Outside of lab, Hanna really enjoys staying active and loves exploring the parks throughout Ann Arbor.
