Education: Ikponmwosa is currently a senior at CUNY Hunter College in Manhattan. He’s majoring in Psychology with a concentration in Physiological Psychology.
How he ended up here: Ikponmwosa is part of the SURN-NURO-BP summer program and is working with the Tronson lab as a summer research assistant.
Research interests: Ikponmwosa’s research interests lie primarily in memory, learning, and addiction. He aims to understand the mechanism underlying addiction and how certain populations become more vulnerable to addiction. Ikponmwosa is also interested in understanding what makes certain memories more salient than others and how exposure to a variety of stimuli can improve or hinder the formation of memories.
What he’s studied in the past: At his home institution, Ikponmwosa researches the addictive nature of Anorexia Nervosa, looking at how exercise addiction presents itself in patients with Anorexia.
What he’s studying now: In the Tronson lab, Ikponmwosa is working on understanding how being exposed to a virus that leads to an inflammatory response can cause long-term memory deficits.
Hobbies/Fun Facts: Ikponmwosa loves to eat, find new restaurants, and try new recipes.
