RESUMEN/ABSTRACT
El contra discurso como emblema de la música urbana del Caribe hispánico
Los discursos articulan y constituyen las prácticas y los actores sociales. En este sentido, tanto el discurso institucional como el discurso marginal, representan un acto de comunicación mediante el cual las personas expresan sus sentimientos, ideologías y visiones del mundo. Por tanto, los problemas sociales, sobre los que leemos, escuchamos o aprendemos, son discursivamente mediatizados a través de las categorías discursivas (exclusión, inclusión, estereotipación, discrimen…). Así que lo que sabemos de nuestro contexto y la manera en la que actuamos está enmarcado en un discurso constituido por otros. Este estudio presenta el andamiaje teórico y metodológico que reconoce y apoya el contra discurso que se genera y se dedica a criticar el contexto social de Puerto Rico y países de habla hispana. Por esto, se describirá y analizará el contra discurso como emblema de la música urbana del Caribe hispánico. Se trabajará la representación discursiva del contra discurso como medio contestatario a través de la letra de la música urbana de grupos o bandas musicales representativos de Cuba, República Dominicana y Puerto Rico. Para identificar y estudiar los tópicos y las marcas léxicas que responden al contra discurso revolucionario o de resistencia, empleamos un tipo de análisis macro y micro estructurales semánticos, cuyo fin es saber y conocer estas estructuras e identificar qué es lo que implican o simulan dentro de un discurso de poder. Este análisis está enmarcado en la perspectiva teórica del Análisis Crítico del Discurso, cuya finalidad es identificar el abuso de poder y las categorías discursivas que se manifiestan a través de los discursos sociales.
Counter Discourse as an Emblem of Urban Hispanic Caribbean Music
Discourses articulate and constitute practices and social actors. In this sense, institutional discourse as much as marginal discourse, represent an act of communication through which people express their sentiments, ideologies, and visions of the world. Therefore, social problems, about which we read, listen, or learn, are discursively mediated through discursive categories (exclusion, inclusion, stereotyping, discrimination, etc…), such that what we know about our context and the way in which we act is marked by a discourse constituted by others. This study presents a theoretical and methodological framework that recognizes and supports the counter discourse that is generated and dedicated to criticizing the social context of Puerto Rico and Spanish-speaking countries. Therefore, this essay will describe and analyze counter discourse as emblematic of urban Hispanic Caribbean music. It studies the discursive representation of the counter discourse as a contested medium in the lyrics of urban music groups or bands representative of Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico. In order to identify and study the topics and lexical marks that respond to the counter discourses of revolution or resistance, we employ a type of micro and macro analysis of semantic structures, with the goal of recognizing these structures and identifying what is it that they imply or simulate within a discourse of power. This analysis is defined by the theoretical perspective of Critical Discourse Analysis, whose objective is to identify the abuse of power and the discursive categories that manifest by way of social discourses.

Doctorando en Linguística Hispánica en la Universidad de Puerto Rico-Río Piedras, institución en la cual obtuvo su maestría en Linguística general. Actualmente, está trabajando sobre las estrategias sociolectales de la comunidad homosexual y, además, sobre el contradiscurso como medio discursivo en la música urbana; ambas investigaciones tienen como foco de interés el Caribe hispánico: Cuba, Puerto Rico y República Dominicana. Sus temas de interés son los estudios del discurso, la teoría semántica y la pragmática.
Anthony is a PhD student in Hispanic Linguistics at the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras, the institution in which he obtained a master’s degree in general linguistics. Currently, he is working on the sociolinguistic strategies of the homosexual community and, moreover, on the counter-discourse as a discursive medium in urban music: Both research focuses on the Hispanic Caribbean: Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. His subjects of interest are discursive studies, semantic theory and pragmatics.
