Below are the writings made by Carrie Balcom Smith, the wife of Harry Smith, describing the items that her husband collected–items that include the shield and walking stick featured on this site. These writings were likely made around 1937, when Smith donated the items to the Oxford Historical Society shortly after Mr. Smith’s death. Among these writings are also several postcards and photographs Smith took of the people and environments around them. The couple stayed in Baguio for 5 years, where H.E. Smith served as a hospital administrator after fighting in the Spanish-American and Philippine-American wars.
