Ören, Aras

Aras Ören (b. 1939) is a Turkish playwright, actor, novelist, poet, and radio journalist and has been one of the most important voices in the emergence of Turkish-German literature since the 1960s. Much of his work, first written in Turkish and translated to German, discusses perspectives and experiences of Turkish Gastarbeiter in West Berlin and aims to broaden the horizons of what is considered “German literature” beyond the borders of Germany itself. Some notable work includes Was will Niyazi in der Naunynstrasse? (1973) and his 1978 poems.
