EXPORT, Valie

Valie EXPORT (b. 1940) is an Austrian avantegarde artist. She is a filmmaker, performance artist, photographer, sculptor, and author who has continuously made splashes in the Austrian art world since the 1960s and is one of the most influential concept artists in Europe. “Valie EXPORT” is both her name as well as her brand. EXPORT explains in an interview that she no longer wanted to carry the names of her father nor ex-husband, and thus created a name and logo entirely for herself, with the name EXPORT inspired by the cigarette brand. Some of her most influential works include Tapp und Tastkino, the film Unsichtbare Gegner, and her photograph Genitalpanik.
