Digital Islamic Studies Curriculum
The Digital Islamic Studies Curriculum (DISC) coordinates an Islamic Studies curriculum across participating Big Ten universities through the Big Ten Academic Alliance CourseShare program. Our courses are taught by Islamic studies experts via synchronous videoconferencing technology and provide a unique opportunity to engage with students at other campuses. DISC is funded by the Mellon Foundation and is housed at the University of Michigan’s Global Islamic Studies Center, a member of the International Institute.
What is Islamic Studies?
Islamic Studies provides students with a nuanced understanding of the role of Islamic religion culturally, societally, and politically in areas with Muslim populations. Understanding Islam as the source of a distinctive religious and ethnic identity and culture is particularly vital in this day and age.
