On behalf of CALC|UM, I would like to invite you to a panel on industry-to academia career transition, featuring three panelists:
Prof. Mark Banaszak Holl (UM Chemistry), Prof. Scott Larsen (UM Medicinal Chemistry), and Prof. Anna Schwendeman (UM Pharmaceutical Sciences).

Our panelists will share their stories in making the move from industry to
academia and perspectives on industry and academia career paths.

Panelists

Professor Mark Banaszak Holl (UM Chemistry)
Dr. Banaszak Holl worked as a post-doctoral fellow at IBM T. J. Watson Research Laboratory before beginning his career in academia. Currently, his research group is focused in the areas of biological materials, nanotechnology for drug
and gene delivery, and the structure of Type I collagen in bone and other tissues.

Professor Scott Larsen (UM Medicinal Chemistry)
Professor Larsen spent over 22 years in the pharmaceutical industry (The Upjohn Co, Pharmacia, Pfizer) as a synthetic medicinal chemist, rising to the rank of Associate Director and Fellow, before joining UM in 2007. He is currently
Director of the Vahlteich Medicinal Chemistry Core (VMCC).

Professor Anna Schwendeman (UM Pharmaceutical Sciences)
Before joining UM in 2012, Dr. Schwendeman spent 12 years in pharmaceutical industry at Cerenis Therapeutics (Fierce 15 biotech, www.cerenis.com [www.cerenis.com]), Pfizer, and Esperion Therapeutics. She was involved in discovery and translation of several HDL therapies to Phase II clinical trials.
