Day 1

Campers started the week by learning all about birds! They began by learning about what adaptions are and how bird’s beaks have adapted to fit different habitats and food sources. Campers had the opportunity to look and touch bird skulls!

A Great Horned Owl skull! These owls eat small rodents, rabbits and insects.
A Northern Cardinal skull! Cardinals eat seeds, insects and fruit.

 

Then campers got to create their own birds. They chose different adaptations like camouflage, long necks, small beaks and multiple legs! Lastly, campers learned about some of the dangers birds face due to humans through a obstacle course activity.

Day 2

Today, campers learned all about the differences between reptiles and amphibians! Campers first learned about the differences by looking at some frog skeletons and snake skin.

 

Campers then had the chance to make their own rattlesnake craft with a tail that really rattled! They had some help fromĀ  popcorn kernels.

Campers ended the day with learning about some other differences about Reptiles and Amphibians such as texture, eggs and body temperature. They also learned how some reptiles and amphibians can’t hear vibrations but can feel them. They tested this by placing a tuning fork to their chin!

Day 3

Wednesday was all about ocean animals! Campers had the opportunity to help paint the Community Mural in the basement of the new museum! Both campers and counselors enjoyed being able to contribute and once we were done we had the chance to color a drawing of what the mural will look like when it’s finished!

When we came back to the museum, the campers spent the rest of the day learning all about sharks! The campers had the opportunity to look at some shark jaws and then make their own shark creations! They finished the day playing shark bingo and everyone got a cool prize at the end!

Day 4

 

On Thursday campers spent the afternoon learning about insects! The Leslie Science and Nature Center came to camp and taught the kids all abut bees! Campers had the opportunity to act like a bee by collecting nectar for the Queen Bee and communicating through the waggle dance.

After learning about insects, campers spent the rest of the afternoon catching bugs outside. The campers were very excited to catch bugs, especially ants and rolly pollies!

Day 5

On Friday campers got to take a walking field trip to Nichols Arboretum! We were lucky enough to miss all the rain! Campers went on an animal scavenger looking for everything from deer to ants! Campers also got to spend some time in the fairy garden!
