50th Anniversary of DAAS – Just another LSA Faculty Sites Network site

Department of Afroamerican and African Studies

50th Anniversary

Welcome to the Department of Afroamerican and African Studies 50+ Anniversary website!  We are pleased to commemorate the presence of this unit on the University of Michigan’s campus for over fifty years. Founded as the Center for Afroamerican and African Studies in 1970, the unit became a department in 2011, and is commonly known as DAAS. The DAAS @ 50 Planning Committee composed of faculty, students and staff worked diligently to explore the 50+ year history of African American, African and Diaspora Studies at Michigan.

Here you will find a public history of the department complete with a timeline, oral histories, podcasts, video links to events held throughout the year and so much more! We will continue to update and build upon the site with contributions from alumni, the campus community and the general public. If you have any memories that you would like to share, please contact us at DAAS.50th@umich.edu
