Halfway Hijabi: Hijabi Monologues

On Friday, February 3rd, students, faculty, and the community had the opportunity to attend an event titled, “Halfway Hijabi : Hijabi Monologues”. Hosted by University of Michigan sophomores Fatima Sarah Haidar and Alyiah al-Bonijim, the event consisted of student monologues, poetry and music. The event provided an opportunity for people to learn about the hijab, as well as a safe space for Hijabi women to share their stories and art. Held in the amphitheater at the Rackham Graduate School at the University of Michigan, men and women from all around campus and the community attended to offer support, and to learn from the performers. Events like the monologues allow people to learn more about different nuances of the Islamic community, and in particular, give a voice to Hijabi women to explain why they choose to wear the hijab.
