Each object page includes an essay about its significance, high resolution image(s), select annotated bibliographies, and relevant English/Japanese/Ainu language translated primary sources. Featured objects were selected based on research by team members, suggestions from community and scholarly consultations, workshop and advisory board member choices, and continuing feedback from visitors like you. The objects are not meant to comprise a comprehensive survey of all major works and genres from the cultures of the Japanese archipelago and are not intended as a canon in any way.
We welcome feedback on the selection of objects and we are always open to suggestions for new or alternative works to consider.
