Welcome to the Historical Institutions Lab

Home

The Historical Institutions Lab (HIL) is part of the Center for Political Institutions at the University of Michigan. It focuses on developing new research on historical political institutions, and in particular, developing new approaches to digitizing, storing, and analyzing data from historical archives in the developing world.

Another objective of the lab is to provide a space for collaboration between graduate students and faculty, as well as a platform to apply for conferences and grants to enhance dissertation work. The lab also seeks to provide additional training for students interested in historically-focused research by designing workshops and courses based on its research.
