Geoff Eley is the Karl Pohrt Distinguished University Professor of Contemporary History and German Studies. He works on modern Germany, Britain, and Europe; comparative studies of fascism; the history of Left in the 19th & 20th centuries; history and film; history and theory; and the history of terrorism. He was born and educated in the UK; taught at the University of Cambridge; and came to the University of Michigan in 1979.
