My name is Savithry Namboodiripad, and I’m an Assistant Professor in Linguistics at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where I lead the Contact, Cognition, & Change Lab.
My research asks how variation in language experience, use, and ideology leads to variation in linguistic practices, often using experimental methods. I also study the field of linguistics, working to understand how we can co-create a more accurate and just discipline when it comes to our theoretical assumptions, methodological practices, and how we conduct the work of academia.
I pronounce my name saːvit̪riː n̪ampuːt̪iɾipːaːɖə in Malayalam, ˈsa.vɪ.ˌθɹi nam.ˈbu.ði.ɹi.ˌpad in English, and I often go by Savi.
