FAQ

What is this website?

This website serves as a digital archive of the testimonies collected by The Reckoning Project and a memorial to victims of the war in Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022.

Who is this website for?

This website serves educational, commemorative, and awareness-raising purposes for various audiences across the globe. It is useful for educators and students at the high school and college levels, as well as for journalists, bloggers, and non-experts eager to better understand the human dimensions of the war in Ukraine.

What is the time period covered by the website?

We include data from incidents that occurred between February 24, 2022, and February 23, 2024. After that period, WCEE will add incidents to the maps and the archive on a quarterly basis.

How do I navigate the map?

Our interactive tool consists of two maps that complement each other—Incident Map and Troop Movement Map.

  1. On the Incident Map, each dot represents an incident. Pop-ups provide information about incidents. Fuller descriptions of incidents are available in the Archive of Testimonies.
    • When zoomed out, the number appearing in a larger red circle represents the number of incidents clustered in a specific area.
  2. Troop Movement Map provides a timeline of incidents in relation to the movements of Russian and Ukrainian troops.
    • Use the slider on the bottom of the screen to navigate the map in 1-week increments.

Do the maps show all of the war crimes that are happening in Ukraine?

NO. The maps only contain incidents collected and vetted by The Reckoning Project and analyzed by WCEE. It does not reflect all incidents of violence between February 24, 2022, and February 23, 2024.

Why are there no names or photos of evidence?

Incidents included on our website are considered for legal prosecution, which prohibits the disclosure of certain information and/or the inclusion of certain details. The identities of witnesses, victims, and The Reckoning Project’s researchers are concealed for their protection.

Can I read the full texts of the testimonies?

The full texts of the testimonies are not available on this website. However, if you believe that you or your organization can benefit from access to more details about the incident, please use our Request More Info form to reach out to The Reckoning Project directly. The Reckoning Project’s team will review your request and contact you with their decision.
