Ypsilanti Head Start

Setting: 1661 Leforge Rd, Ypsilanti.

Description: Head Start is a federal program for preschool children from low-income families, which has been in existence for over 30 years. Eligibility for Head Start is determined by various risk factors, such as having a single parent, loss of a parent, low-income, participation in a food assistance program, etc. The aim of this program is to give children a “head start” as they prepare for kindergarten, by providing opportunities for children to develop skills that are necessary for success in school. Children range in age from 3-5 years old. The program has quite a bit of structure and instruction. In the classroom, the children participate in group activities, learn school routines, and interact with other children and adults.
