Cecilia Ledezma Herrera is a senior in LSA majoring in English, German, and Translation Studies with a minor in Digital Studies. As she grew up in three Latin American countries, Spanish is her first language, but she has been studying English since Kindergarten. Since then, she has studied French in middle school, Japanese in high school, and now studies German and Quechua in college. She is currently finishing her Capstone in Research through the English department on the “Dark Academia” literary genre and subculture. She has been a writer for The Michigan Daily since her freshman year and was the 2025 Joshua Mitnick ’92, ’95 Managing Editor. Recently, she has taken up knitting and enjoys staying up to date with new TV and film releases in her spare time.

Ariel Litwak is an English and Translation Studies major (as well as a Linguistics minor) whose work often revolves around the experiences of non-belonging within migration, language change, and transness. She speaks Spanish, French, English, and some Arabic and Italian. She writes for The Michigan Daily and sometimes streams on Twitch to a remarkably small audience. She loves to cook, compete in video game tournaments, write, translate, and complete the New York Times crosswords on a nightly basis. Her South American and Jewish backgrounds inform her interests in translation, literature, and travel.

Hongshu Wang is a junior at the University of Michigan from Beijing, China, currently majoring in both Sociology and Translation. Having lived in China for the first 18 years of her life, Mandarin is her first language, but she has been learning English since kindergarten and Japanese since middle school. She especially enjoys classical Chinese, which expresses complex ideas in very concise sentences, and is enthusiastic about explaining them fully in modern English. She also writes for the Michigan Daily and is preparing for a journalism career after graduation. Hongshu also enjoys travelling and Spanish food.

Juno Nedumaran is a senior at the University of Michigan from the Bay Area, California, currently majoring in Neuroscience with a minor in Creative Writing. She developed an interest in learning French after reading the novel “A Man Asleep” by the French writer Georges Perec; in general, her motivation for language learning stems from wanting to read her favorite translated books in their original language. A passion for translation naturally arose from her desire to deepen her language skills. Juno also enjoys hiking, traveling, and cherries.
