Detroit Future City

Examples of Student Work

The Egalitarian Metropolis was unlike any other course I’ve ever taken. It was really powerful to delve into the history of Detroit from a range of perspectives, encompassing urban planning, sociology, environmental justice, art, culture, and community organizing, among others. Our discussions presented a stark contrast from previous courses I’ve taken, which often fixated purely on the issues/traumas experienced by specific groups or places. Instead, we approached the intricacies of Detroit’s history by highlighting the continuous efforts of the community, their resilience in the face of numerous challenges over the years, and all of the promising possibilities for the city’s future.”
