Thriving Black Futures

The Institute for AfroUrbanism (IAU) is an ever expanding global constellation of Black artists, planners, developers, ritualists, historians, curators, storytellers, thinkers, dreamers and doers. We have convened in locations all over the world, connecting to our diasporic cousins on multiple continents in search of a universal understanding of what it means to be Black and thrive individually and communally.

Our work locally intends to close the gap between Detroit’s present and its potential, through consistent and intentional consciousness raising programming and research that will inspire radical positive change. The forthcoming Field Guide for Black Thriving is informed and inspired by IAU’s Global Expedition: Ghana and related research.
