More information for Students

The SPICEs research group is looking for students to join us on the following topics.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities for the 2022 – 2023 Academic Year

  • We are looking for undergraduates to work on high energy characterization of exoplanet hosting stars with Swift observatory data
  •  We are looking for undergraduates to query astronomical catalogues and develop target lists for UV characterization of exoplanet atmospheres
  • We are looking for undergraduates who love coding and want to work on software infrastructure for miscellaneous creative projects such as building web applets to query our group’s catalogs

Coding and Outreach Opportunity

  • We are looking for a highly motivated undergraduate or graduate student to help develop content and manage social media presence for WoCCode. This person would ideally be a member and benefit from participation in WoCCode, while receiving pay for helping manage content for the group.

Looking for Graduate Students to work on the following topics

  • Data analysis pipelines for studying the high resolution spectrum of dust scattering halos with XRISM (**launching 2023**)
  • Applying data-driven algorithms to increase the detection rate and precision of exoplanet transits in the NUV with the space-based telescopes, XMM-Newton and Swift
  • Using high resolution spectra of Galactic X-ray binaries to develop new scaling relations and abundance tables for the interstellar medium that include the contribution of both gas and solid phases of metals
  • Modeling exoplanet transmission spectra in the NUV

Please email Dr. Corrales at liac at umich dot edu to learn more about these opportunities.
