Biology Week 2019

The MCDB and EEB DEI Committees hosted a Draw-A-Scientist activity. Research by David Chambers showed that early exposure to a diverse array of scientists can change a child’s perspective of a scientist.

We had students, postdocs, and faculty draw themselves to be displayed in the museum for children to see that scientists come in all different identities and that anyone can look like a scientist!

Focus Groups with CEW+

CEW+ and MCDB DEI worked to recruit graduate students to discuss their identities and the challenges they face in having their identities supported in graduate school. This was published as a report and was used to create a training module for all faculty

Celebrating Black History Month with Black&STEM!

Hosted by Bahaar Chawla, this event was an interactive game to teach the MCDB community about Black scientists, mathematicians, and other STEM field individuals that should be in our history books!

Cultural Awareness Hour

Graduate students shared different holidays and custom traditions related to their culture
