in place of a beginning

UNDEVELOP ME!
ask the mountains for my name,
sit as if a boulder defining patience;
what keeps on falling?
what stretches on as if smoke?
these houses as the bones of a valley
this plane that falls off its bosom;
arrival, is a sedimenting.

blood could not yet dry and the river rests brown,
thirst of the majesty, land constrained in fantasy,
as I debate to stay or depart
a siren’s horn laughs down the skies:
try as you may
the earth breaks into ravenous lips
tentacles as blossoms
run the canyons of its bark;

the ache
that follows us
is history.

Ali Murat Gali is a queer writer & cultural organizer from Antakya, Turkey. Their practice interrogates the sensuous currents that overflow as we get lost to create new worlds. Ali pays particular attention to entangled dynamics and rupturing meanings of home, memory, and identity. They have a law degree, yet rather than practicing, Ali is curious to trace how revolutionary communities create and embody their own laws. They reside in Waawiyaatanong, also known as Detroit.
