Ultimately, we want to know how these proteins work on a molecular level. We have ongoing basic research and drug discovery projects that use cryo-EM to gain a mechanistic understanding of protein function. The figures below show two recent structures we have determined, one of a CLC family fluoride exporter, and one from the FEX family of eukaryotic fluoride channels.
