Detroit Jewish News is looking for bloggers!

RC Creative Writing alumna Hannah Levine (RC 2016) is the new Digital/Social Media Editor at the Detroit Jewish News. She notes that the News is looking for bloggers!

Writers are not required to be Jewish. “However,” Hannah writes, “in order to stay within the overall goals of the Detroit Jewish News, we are looking for candidates with a willingness to explore Jewish content or themes.” If interested, send a resume with a brief (paragraph or two) cover letter, a 300-500 word blog-style writing sample related to one of the topics below  (or another topic if really passionate about it), and a list of social media accounts and following to hlevine@thejewishnews.com. Please use the subject line “DJN Blogger [YOUR NAME}.” For example,  “DJN Blogger Hannah Levine.” Please send writing samples by March 26, 2018. Bloggers write at least 2x/month and are paid $15 per post.

The News is looking for bloggers who can write about the following topics in a fun, interesting, fresh way. AP style is a plus. Kitschy Kosher: Write about cool, interesting Kosher and not-Kosher food, recipes, restaurants, etc. Music:  What should our readers be listening to? Why? Cable and/or Streaming TV: What should our readers be watching? Why? No spoilers. Love & Relationships: Do you have crazy experiences in dating? Are you open to answering relationship questions? Do you have love advice that actually works (or that you tell yourself works)? Books: What should our readers be reading? Think of this like a book club. Choose a book, read the book, discuss the book, keep going. No spoilers. Israel (Travel/Volunteerism/Voluntourism): Do you like to travel? Is Israel your favorite location, or dream spot, or maybe one day if I’m really, really lucky spot? Have you been on birthright or other Israel trips? Have you been anywhere else? Do you have travel tips or tricks? Jewish & Jew-ISH life: Do you identify as Jewish or Jew-ISH? Why? Kick-Ass Women: Can you highlight awesome Jewish women doing cool and interesting things both locally and not? Can you  identify and seek out inspirational women, talk with them, and write about them? Jewish Detroit: What’s going on downtown and in the burbs? What are the cool kids on the block doing? Slightly Alcoholic (Kosher + wine, beer, scotch, and more. (Must be 21+): Can you write about all things alcohol?
