In Honor of Lorna Goodison’s Retirement

Edward Baugh is a Professor Emeritus of English, University of the West Indies, Jamaica. He holds degrees from the University College of the West Indies (BA Hons., 1957), Queen’s University, Ontario (MA, 1959), and the University of Manchester (PhD, 1964). He has been Visiting Professor at UCLA and Howard University, and Visiting Commonwealth Scholar at Flinders, Macquarie, and Wollongong universities. His publications include Derek Walcott: Memory as Vision; ed. Critics on Carribean Literature; ed. with Colbert Nepaulsingh, Derek Walcott’s Another Life; ed. Derek Walcott’sSelected Poems; and Frank Collymore: a Biography. His three collections of poety are: A Tale from the Rainforest, It Was the Singing, and Black Sand: New and Selected Poems.

Jahan Ramazani is Edgar F. Shannon Professor of English at the University of Virginia. His books include A Transnational Poetics (2009), winner of the Harry Levin Prize, and Poetry of Mourning: The Modern Elegy from Hardy to Heaney (1994), a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. His most recent book is Poetry and Its Others: News, Prayer, Song, and the Dialogue of Genres (2013).  An associate editor of The Princeton Encyclopedia of Poetry and Poetics (2012), he has also co-edited several Norton anthologies. He is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, an NEH Fellowship, a Rhodes Scholarship, the William Riley Parker Prize, and the Thomas Jefferson Award, the University of Virginia’s highest honor.
