Graduate Students:
Dr. Richmond-Rakerd will not be reviewing doctoral student applications for Fall 2027 matriculation.
Potential applicants should consider their match with the research emphases of the lab. Our work centers on the development and outcomes of self-regulation problems and related psychopathology, with a particular focus on disinhibitory disorders (substance use disorders and antisocial behavior), suicide, and self-harm. We take a lifespan approach, focusing on development from childhood and adolescence into adulthood and later life. For instance, we are interested in the consequences of early self-regulation difficulties for later physical health and aging. Also, much of our work involves conducting analyses of large epidemiologic datasets. Students with interests in the above topic areas and in using/learning advanced statistical methodologies would be well-matched to the lab’s research emphases. The lab is unlikely to be a good fit for students who wish to focus their research solely on childhood self-regulation, or who lack enthusiasm for quantitative work.
