Khadiza Begum
Khadiza is a senior studying Sociology with a concentration in Health & Medicine, along with minors in Islamic Studies and Gender & Health. As a pre-health student she intends to apply to Physician Assistant school and to serve society by examining and improving the health care system.
Mariah Benford
Mariah Benford is a 3rd-year student at the University of Michigan majoring in Sociology with a focus on Law, Justice, and Social Change. Mariah has a strong interest in educational advocacy and plans to create a change in existing educational policies to ensure proper funding for all students (K-12) to receive a quality education. After obtaining her B.A. in 2021, she is interested in continuing her education by obtaining both a Master of Social Work degree and Master of Public Policy degree while continuing to serve within local communities.

After my time at the University of Michigan, she plans to attend law school and become an attorney. She is extremely passionate about human rights and social justice and hopes to make it her life’s work.

Kathy Pham hails from Carrollton, Texas and is the daughter of two Vietnamese immigrants. She is a rising sophomore studying in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts Honors Program. Her interests lie in positive organizational scholarship, human rights, and the underrepresented minority, low-income, Asian-American, and first-generation student experiences.
Lynnita Riley
Lynnita is a Junior studying Sociology with a sub major in Law, Justice and Social change. She plans to receive her Masters of Social Work and Law degree which will both lead her to the career of her choice. In her free time, she loves to spend time with family and travel around the world, with her most recent experience being Saint Lucia, South Africa.

Conner Chinavare
Conner Chinavare is a junior at The University of Michigan. He is majoring in Sociology with a Law, Justice, and Social Change subplan and an LGBT+ Studies minor, on a pre-law track. As an openly gay male, he is most interested in social justice initiatives such as discrimination cases, prison reformation, and even juvenile criminal defense. His goal is to build community and strive towards a future where people can coexist happily, and justly.
Cynthia Fout
Cynthia Fout is a Second-Year student at the University of Michigan from Hart, MI. She is currently majoring in Sociology from the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts and will be applying for a dual degree with the School of Education for Secondary Ed. in February. Her favorite things to do when she isn’t studying are trying out new recipes, listening to podcasts like Hidden Brain and You’re Wrong About, as well as playing basketball and pickle ball.

Kaltri Hoxha
Kaltri Hoxha is a current junior at the University of Michigan double majoring in biomolecular science and sociology of health and medicine. He is a first-gen student, but also a first-gen immigrant from Albania. He decided to join the SOUL program to meet other first-gen sociology students and to create a community in which he feels welcomed.
Janaye Jones
Janaye Jones is a senior studying Sociology of Health and Medicine with a minor in Afro-American and African Studies from Ypsilanti, MI. As a pre-health student, she plans to apply to MPH programs then eventually apply to medical school. Janaye has a strong interest in health disparities and wants to use her degrees to provide equitable care to people who are not often afforded equitable care.

Angelique Leon is currently a Junior in the college of LSA at the University of Michigan. If she isn’t working as a secretary or Barista, she spends her free time writing in a journal and exploring more about her spirituality and what the world has to offer.

Nayetzy Munoz
Nayetzy Munoz is from Chicago. She is interested in Sociology because she loves learning about how cultures and societal norms impact everyday life. She says that she has broadened her base of knowledge through the sociology classes she has taken. In terms of a career, she is interested in becoming a therapist. She hopes to work in a local clinic to improve access to therapy and mental health for the individuals in her culture and community.
Brianna Murphy
Brianna Murphy is a Junior studying Sociology with a focus on Social Work. She is a volunteer at both Ann Arbor Public Schools and C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. In the future, she hopes to earn her Master’s of Social Work and work with children as a Child Life Specialist. In her free time, she enjoys watching Michigan football, basketball, and hockey games with her friends.
Sydney Perez
Sydney Perez is a third year student from the Southside of Chicago studying Sociology and Social Work. She is passionate about education equality and access as well as workers’ rights. She has had internships in the non-profit organization sector but has goals to expand her experience elsewhere. She hopes to make a positive impact on her community in the future.

Brandon Smith is a third-year student studying Sociology with a sub-major in Law, Justice, and Social Change. Brandon is interested in finding ways to get others to participate in the ongoing struggle in the fight against economic and social inequality.
Tyleah Tyner
Tyleah Tyner is a third-year student studying Sociology with a sub-plan of Law, Justice and Social Change, and Psychology with a concentration in Development. She is intermediately fluent in French and is also interested in adding ASL and Spanish to her language repertoire. Outside of school, some of her favorite hobbies are listening to true crime stories and reading thriller/mystery books.
MaKenzee Van Buren
MaKenzee Van Buren is a junior at the University of Michigan studying Sociology with a concentration in Social Work. In the future, she hopes to work as a school social worker to address the inequity present in America’s educational system. In her free time, MaKenzee enjoys rock climbing, reading, and spending time with loved ones. She comes from Ishpeming, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
