Instrumentation – Stable Isotope Facility

Instrumentation

SCIPP Lab (Petersen)

MAT 253

This ThermoFisher MAT253 is equipped with extra Faraday cups to collect masses 47, 48, and 49 when measuring carbon dioxide.

Nu Perspective with NuCarb

This instrument is equipped to measure clumped isotopes in carbonates with sample preparation completed automatically using the attached NuCarb device. Installation was in Summer 2019.

PACE Lab (Cole)

ICP-OES iCAP 7400
ICP-OES iCAP 7400

The ICP-OES iCAP 7400 measures elemental compositions in various solutions. It is primarily used to measure [Ca], [Sr], [Mg], and [Ba] in coral samples. Other elements include [P], [Mn], and [Fe], among others.

Kiel IV and Delta V Plus
Delta V and Kiel IV

This Delta V Plus mass spectrometer with Kiel IV automated preparation device measures stable carbon and oxygen isotopes in carbonates. The primary use is for corals, speleothems, and bulk lake sediment. Other uses include microfossil, enamel, or apatite samples.

Stable Isotope Lab (Lohmann)

Delta, Kiel IV, Gasbench and H device

This Delta mass spectrometer and peripherals are used for a wide variety of analyses.

MAT 253 and Kiel

This ThermoFisher MAT253 with a Kiel IV automated preparation device is for stable carbon and oxygen isotopes in carbonates of various mineralogies (calcite, aragonite, dolomite, apatite).
