Color ID Tools
Like the microscopy, technical imaging, and XRF workflows, the pigment and dye identification flowcharts shared here were developed as part of the “Investigating Color in Roman Egypt” project’s technical survey. These charts lay out characteristic imaging behaviors and XRF peaks for pigments and dyes found on Roman Egyptian artifacts and serve as guides for making pigment characterizations on objects and textiles. In some cases, further analysis is necessary to confirm what is present on an artifact. This is especially true for pigment mixtures and dyes.
