Workflows
The workflows presented here are optimized for the equipment and processing techniques used at the Kelsey Museum. While they were developed for the “Investigating Color in Roman Egypt” project and its particular set of research questions, instruments, and users, they can be adapted to other projects.
Color ID Tools
These charts lay out characteristic imaging behaviors and XRF peaks for pigments and dyes found on Roman Egyptian artifacts, and they serve as guides for making pigment characterizations on objects and textiles. In some cases, further analysis is necessary to confirm what is present on an artifact. This is especially true for pigment mixtures and dyes.
