“Flash talk” on Heritage in the Sudanese civil war

It’s been too long since the Barkal project has posted. But we wanted to announce a short talk this Friday at noon Eastern time on steps we are taking with our colleagues in Sudan to address heritage issues in the current conflict. Announcement below.

The civil war in Sudan began in April of this year. What threats does it pose to archaeological sites, museums, and monuments, and what can archaeologists in Sudan and internationally do to mitigate potential damage?

In this talk, Geoff Emberling—associate research scientist at the Kelsey and faculty in U-M’s Department of Middle East Studies—will outline efforts that the Kelsey Museum’s team has been making to support colleagues and communities that it has been working with in Sudan.

Kelsey Museum Flash Talks are 15-minute Zoom lectures by Kelsey curators, staff members, researchers, and graduate students talking about their recent research or current projects. Each presentation is followed by 15 minutes of Q&A. Flash Talks are free and open to all visitors. They take place at noon on the first Friday of every month.
