Dan Wang

2021 COHORT

Headshot of Dan Wang

Dan studied at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Risk Management Science. She also triple-minored in Mathematics, Statistics and Finance. During her undergraduate study, she developed a strong interest in the risk management field and passed part I of the FRM exam with distinction.

She actively participated extra-curricular activities and internships. She was the founder and the first internal vice president of the United College Mainland Student Association, which is to promote mutual understanding between different student groups. She has interned at an accounting firm and a technology company. These two experiences made her realize that risk management can be both qualitative and quantitative. She also realized how much the quantitative part needs solid programming skills. By doing coursework and internships, Dan has acquired programming experience in VBA, MySQL, Python and R.

Her immediate goal is to work as a quantitative risk analyst. In the future, she hopes to adopt advanced quantitative techniques to reduce the corporate uncertainties, which can  prevent severe loss to companies and enhance the robustness of financial markets.

In 2021, Dan enrolled as a member of the 2021 Quant Program cohort to pursue her dream of becoming a quantitative risk analyst. She is confident that Michigan’s curriculum will give her the depth of knowledge in mathematical and statistical theories that will equip her with knowledge and make her a strong candidate in the job market.

In addition to her academic achievements and career ambitions, Dan is known for being empathetic, gregarious, and genuine. In her free time, she enjoys hiking with friends to get close to nature and challenges herself to the most difficult routes.
