U-M Residential College drama lecturer Kate Mendeloff directs students and local actors in an alfresco production of Shakespeare’s vividly poetic love story, a romantic tragedy about “star-crossed lovers” defying their feuding families. Initially lightheartedly comic, then dire, this perennially popular drama is the heart-wrenching tale of 2 impetuous young lovers destroyed by the intransigence of their feuding families, their own mistakes, and some incredibly bad timing. The RC’s annual Shakespeare in the Arb productions have become a hugely popular local summer tradition. Director Mendeloff takes special care to make the shifting Arb environments an active force in the performance. Bring a blanket or portable chair to sit on; dress for the weather.

Jerzy Drozd is one of the artists of The Warren Commission Report. He has drawn special projects for Glencoe/McGraw-Hill, Marvel Comics, VIZ Media, and others. His favorite NASA mission is Apollo 15. He founded and runs the Ann Arbor Comics Arts Festival and also started a podcast called Galaxy of Super Adventure.
Anne Drozd is a public librarian by day and a cartoonist by night. She’s an avid space exploration enthusiast and a card-holding member of the Planetary Society. Her favorite NASA mission is Apollo 12. Anne helps to introduce people to comics through her work at the Ann Arbor District Library and as co-organizer of the Ann Arbor Comic Arts Festival.
Join us for a book talk and signing with John U Bacon for his new book The Best of Bacon. Says John, “I wrote these stories between 1992 and 2018. They cover a dozen different sports for a dozen different media outlets, from the Ann Arbor News to National Public Radio, and they stretch from a couple pages to a dozen. But they have one thing in common: they all meant a lot to me when I wrote them, and they still do today.”

This Canadian mystery writer briefly discusses her 2 most recent books. The Spook in the Stacks, the 4th in her Lighthouse Library Mystery series (written under the pen name Eva Gates) is centered around a crime-solving librarian at a lighthouse library in North Carolina’s Outer Banks. The Cat of the Baskervilles, the latest in the Sherlock Holmes Bookshop Mystery series, features bookstore owners Gemma Doyle and Jayne Wilson trying to clear Jayne’s mother of the murder of a washed-up actor in town to play in a production of The Hound of the Baskervilles. Delany also joins an Aunt Agatha’s book club discussion, following her talk, of her 1st Sherlock Holmes Bookshop Mystery, Elementary She Read.

June 16 & 17. Adults & kids of all ages invited to meet more than 50 top area cartoonists and participate in workshops on making web comics, writing and drawing minicomics, creating video games, and much more. Kids can also vote in the 6th annual Kids’ Comics Awards. Winners announced during a ceremony featuring puppets, super villains, and more.
