Diagnosis of borderline personality disorder as a function of sexual and gender minority status: A criterion-level examination of provider bias (Project AMP’D)

This study is on the clinical utility of dimensional models of psychopathology. Participation in the study was restricted to practicing mental health professionals (i.e., MD-level psychiatrists and PhD-level clinical and counseling psychologists) and Clinical/Counselling psychology doctoral students who are in their 4th year or above in their training program. Participants were presented with clinical case vignettes describing psychiatric patients and asked to rate the cases using various dimensional models of psychopathology and personality pathology. In addition, participants were asked basic demographic questions as well as information about their competence in providing clinical intervention services for diverse patient populations. The research aims to better understand the relationship between dimensional models of psychopathology and their practical utility in clinical settings.
