PAPER ABSTRACT

This paper discusses how the term “Islamic fundamentalism” has developed in the last decade in Western culture, especially in Puerto Rico and Spain. It addresses how the media, especially major newspapers, constructed the notion of “Islamic fundamentalism” in the context of the American wars in Afghanistan and Irak. Special attention is paid to how a particular vocabulary was developed to explain and understand Islam an Middle Eastern culture.
