Nubian Studies conference

Gate to the University of Warsaw campus

We recently returned from the 15th International Conference for Nubian Studies at the University of Warsaw. Our hosts in Warsaw organized the conference beautifully, and it was particularly good to see the excellent representation of about 50 Sudanese and 15 Egyptian scholars who were able to come to Warsaw. Funding for travel costs is always a challenge, but the organizers and a number of different field projects and institutions supported our colleagues.

As I noted in our last post, this conference happens only every four years and this year our projects at Jebel Barkal and also El-Kurru were presented in 8 papers. It made for a busy conference, but also a very successful one.

Here I am, giving my lecture on Napatan Kush and
our research at Jebel Barkal!

Like always, we met colleagues working on other projects, compared notes, and ate and drank a bit too much. It was a great week!
