Founders and History

MFED was founded in 2021 by President Charlotte Matik, Vice President of Internal Relations Ella McKenzie, and Vice President of External Relations Aishani Agrawal. These three women of MFED had a vision for a student organization that advocated for the equal spread of essential information and education through hands-on work in the community regardless of socioeconomic status, gender, race, etc., in addition to working to bring home University of Michigan’s first College Fed Challenge title. From there, University of Michigan’s Mock Federal Open Market Committee was created.

Since its founding, MFed has welcomed over 150 members, created several highly detailed economic reaction reports, and volunteered over 15 times in Ann Arbor public elementary schools. The organization continues to grow and increase its spread of financial literacy in nearby communities.

MFED’s first founding class was solidified in September of 2021. Its founding Eboard consisted of: (from left to right) DEI Chair Purva Sahijwani, VP of External Relations Aishani Agrawal, Competition Team Chair Caden Pok, VP of Internal Relations Ella McKenzie, President Charlotte Matik, Education Outreach Committee Chair Anastasiya Ilkiv, Co-Recruitment Chairs Kathy Luan and (not pictured) Ella Krumerman, and (not pictured) Financial Chair Keely Ryan.
