NAPC covers all branches of paleontology, including vertebrate, invertebrate, paleobotany, micropaleontology, paleo-related organic and inorganic geochemistry, paleoecology, paleoclimatology, and astrobiology. It provides a forum for exchanging research findings, defining future directions, and fostering relaxed interactions within the paleontological community at large. The meeting will feature a variety of symposia and topical sessions, varied field trips, and technical workshops. We look forward to welcoming you to Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan in a few months!

Prices and key deadlines for registration are on our registration page.

The Paleontological Society’s Code of Conduct applies to all NAPC activities, including off-site excursions.

Conference venues at a glance

NAPC 2024 will open with a half-day plenary session, “Paleontology for All”, held in the Rackham Auditorium. This event is open to the public and will be live-streamed for remote access.

Parallel talk sessions will take place in-person at the Michigan Union. The Union’s IdeaHub will serve as the venue for poster presentations. In addition to presentation spaces, the Michigan Ballroom offers a basement food court, ATM, and other amenities. More details on lodging are here.

Select evening events and mid-week workshops will take place at the Biological Sciences Building, North University Building, and University of Michigan Museum of Natural History, roughly 650 m from the Michigan Union.

The University of Michigan campus offers ample opportunities for participants to step back from the meeting to recharge. The University of Michigan Museum of Art, University of Michigan Museum of Natural History, Kelsey Museum of Archaeology, and Nichols Arboretum are all located on or adjacent to the central campus with no admission fees. As a vibrant college town, Ann Arbor presents many options for delegates looking for a break.

Abbreviated guidelines for posters and talks

Posters can have a maximum height of 3 feet and maximum width of 4 feet. Participants should bring their own pins to affix posters to stands. Poster sessions will take place in the IdeaHub of the Michigan Union. Presenters should hang their posters in advance of the morning coffee break on the day of their presentation (9:45 AM). Posters should be attended by their presenters from 5:30-6:30 PM for the dedicated poster session. After the session is complete, materials should be removed to make space for the next day’s posters.

Talks are typically scheduled for 15 minutes, with 12 minutes for presentation and 3 minutes for questions and speaker transitions. Some symposia have longer keynote-style talks; your symposium conveners should have contacted you if you are expected to deliver one of these presentations. All presentation rooms include a screen, projector, microphone, slide advancer/pointer, and Windows laptop. Slides must be provided in either .ppt or .pdf format at least one-half day before the presentation in the speaker ready room. You may select either 4:3 or 16:9 format, but note that black bars will appear on either side of your slide in 4:3 format. To ensure efficient transition between talks, speakers must use PCs provided in lecture rooms for their presentations rather than their own computers.
