By air
Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) is the principal airport for southeast Michigan, located 30 minutes by car or shuttle bus from Ann Arbor. The airport is a hub for Delta Airlines and its codeshare partners, and also has flights from all major US carriers.
There are several options for ground transportation between DTW and Ann Arbor:
- The Michigan Flyer is a regularly scheduled coach serving Ann Arbor and DTW. To arrive in Ann Arbor from DTW, take the westbound route. To return to DTW from Ann Arbor, take the eastbound route. Tickets are $15 for one-way travel and $25 for a round trip. The Michigan Flyer schedule is here.
- Metro Cars is a reserved car service that provides transportation for as many as 4-6 passengers. Trips from DTW to/from Ann Arbor are roughly $120.
- Uber and Lyft provide rideshare service, and can typically be booked with minimal waiting time in both Ann Arbor and DTW. Travel between Ann Arbor and the airport is generally in the range of $60-$100.
- All major rental car companies have locations at DTW. To travel from the airport, get on I-94 W from Detroit Metro Airport/W. G. Rogell Dr. Continue on I-94 W to Pittsfield Charter Township. Take exit 180B to merge onto US-23 N toward I-94/Ann Arbor. Take exit 37B from US-23 N. Merge onto Washtenaw Ave and continue into Ann Arbor.
By rail
Amtrak provides the Wolverine service, with three daily round-trip trips between Ann Arbor and Chicago (and stops in between). Scheduled travel time is around 5 hours, with tickets purchased well in advance starting as low as $39 each way. Ann Arbor station is centrally located, approximately 1 mile from the Michigan Union, the principal meeting venue.
By car
Ann Arbor is easily accessible by car via major roads (e.g., I-94, US-23), but parking can be challenging. Dormitory housing in North and West quad has no associated parking, but most downtown Ann Arbor hotels offer valet parking services. Conference hotels near Briarwood Mall (Kensington, EVEN) offer on-site parking. Street parking is available but unpredictable. There are several parking garages in central Ann Arbor within walking distance of conference venues. Only some public garages offer overnight parking, and have a 72 hour limit. These include:
