Ryan Szpiech delivered a lecture at the University of Salamanca in May, 2018

In May 2018, I delivered a lecture at the University of Salamanca and the University of Granada. The video of the lecture, “¿En camino a 1391? Abner de Burgos/Alfonso de Valldolid sobre la conversión forzosa,” as delivered in Granada on May 18, 2018, is NOW AVAILABLE ON YOUTUBE HERE.

In December 2014, I delivered a joint lecture with Thomas Burman on the writing of Catalan Dominican Ramon Martí. The video of my portion of the lecture, “A Two-Sidded Dagger: Ramon Martí’s Philosophy of Language and Mission,” is NOW AVAILABLE ON YOUTUBE HERE.

On November 17, 2016 , I presented a paper entitled “Enforcing Rabbinical Tradition: The Forced ‘Conversion’ of Castilian Qaraites” at the conference “Coming to Terms with Forced Conversion,” held in Madrid on November 17–18, 2016.

On Thursday, September 8, 2016, I presented a paper entitled “Heresy and the antialcoranes” at Iberian Heterodoxes and Heterodoxies 1400–1700, in Basel, Switzerland.

• On May 21, 2104, (12:30-2pm) I  spoke in Madrid at the CSIC-CCHS on: “‘El otorgamiento del qui es parte del pleito vale tanto como cient testigos’: Las fuentes y la retórica entre Ramon Martí y Alfonso de Valladolid”

• On May 22, 2014 (4-6pm), I  offered a class on “Historia cultural y análisis textual” as part of the course “Fundamentos teóricos para una historia cultural”

 

 

 

• On Monday, May 26, 2014 (445-7pm), I delivered a paper entitled “Conversion as a Historiographical Problem”at the conference “Debating Conversion in Different Historical Contexts” at the University of Ben Gurion in the Negev, Be’er Sheva, Israel.
