“Prince at Detroit” in Lincolnshire Echo (October 15th, 1924)

101 years ago today, the Prince of Wales took a ‘strenuous’ trip to Detroit, with a jam-packed itinerary in advance of a subsequent trip to Toronto. The Prince toured Henry Ford’s factory, dined with the founder, and attended a reception at the Edsel Ford Home along the river.

STRENUOUS DAYS.

DETROIT, Wednesday. – The Prince of Wales had a strenuous day here yesterday. He inspected the Ford works, and afterwards dined with Mr. Henry Ford and a few invited guests at the Detroit Club. In the evening he attended a reception and dance at the residence of Mr. Ford’s son Edsel. The Prince will cross the Detroit River in the Ford private launch to Windsor, on the Canadian bank, where he will embark in his special train for Toronto. When the Prince’s train stopped at Lansing yesterday morning, on its way from Chicago hither, and whilst he was still asleep, members of the “Hoo-Hoos” Club Lumberman’s Society, solemnly gathered outside the car and went through the ritual of making him an honorary member of their organization.
