New paper on Mesoproterozoic CO2 out in The Depositional Record

Along with former group member Mike Hren, GRITS has a new paper out in The Depositional Record on Mesoproterozoic CO2 levels based upon the carbon isotope composition of stromatolites from the 1.1 Ga old Copper Harbor Conglomerate from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The key result is that microbialite-derived results closely match paleosol-based results and affirm a […]

New paper on Precambrian redox and the atmosphere out in GRL

Along with collaborators Tim Gallagher (former PhD student in GRiTS) and Anthony Chappaz (CMU), Katy Rico and Nathan have a new paper out in Geophysical Research Letters entitled Redox Chemistry and Molybdenum Burial in a Mesoproterozoic Lake. Other workers have suggested that Molybdenum (Mo) enrichments in Precambrian lake sediments may reflect atmospheric oxygen levels. Instead,

Congratulations to Dr. Kathryn (Katy) Rico for her successful dissertation defense

Dr. Kathryn (Katy) Rico defended her PhD dissertation today. Her thesis is entitled Controls on the Sediment Geochemistry of a Low-Oxygen Precambrian Analogue and her dissertation committee consisted of Dr. Joel Blum, Dr. G. Allen Burton, Dr. Rose Cory, Dr. Greg Dick, and GRiTS PI Dr. Nathan Sheldon. Thanks to Katy’s committee for their efforts
