Charlotte Charlaque and Toni Ebel (1892-1963 and 1881-1961) were a German transgender lesbian couple, patients of sexologist Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld, and both underwent gender affirming surgery at the institute of sexology. Charlotte was an actor, language teacher, and diction coach, and Toni is known for her paintings. The couple separated during World War II as they both went into exile, and eventually settled in New York City and East Germany, respectively. Although the couple would never see each other again after the war, they continued to exchange letters into the 1940s.
