The Center for Inquiry Based Learning is housed in East Hall 1044. The space is mainly used for IBL course activities like office hours and tutoring sessions. The space is also used for IBL activities such as monthly IBL lunches and Math Teacher Circles.
At the beginning of every term, students enrolled in IBL classes are given a sticker featuring the Center’s mascot I. B. Owl. This sticker grants students entry into the Center.
The Fall 2026 sticker was designed by Carmela Brown. Carmela is the Director of Orientation and New Student Engagement in the Newnan LSA Academic Advising Center. She holds an M.Ed. in Counselor Education and a B.A. in Psychology. In her work as an academic advisor, Carmela strives to listen attentively, provide accurate information, and connect genuinely with each student. Even when a meeting may seem transactional, she believes it is important to build rapport and create a welcoming environment. She hopes students leave feeling comfortable, valued, and confident that they can ask questions and return to her or anyone in the advising office for support.
As a birdwatcher, Carmela considers spotting an owl in the wild special. “I was thrilled that my Barred Owl drawing was chosen for this year’s IBL sticker. Owls often represent wisdom, curiosity, and thoughtful learning – qualities that reflect the spirit of the IBL community.”
Office Hours
IBL course instructors and course assistants hold at least one of their office hours in the Center for IBL.
Peer Tutoring
Peer tutoring is available for MATH 201 during the first two weeks of each term on a drop-in basis. On the third week of each term, peer tutoring for MATH 217 begins. Students enrolled in this course will find the sign-up sheet on the course’s Canvas page.
