Highschool students talk with Intend to Attend ambassadors during a campus visit with Intend to Attend

Program Requirements

Click on each program requirement below for more info!

Confirmed students must attend a mandatory orientation on June 3rd from 5:30pm to 6:30pm OR June 4th from 7pm to 8pm, before the program officially begins. Parents and guardians are encouraged to attend. This meeting will review program requirements, confirm expectations, and answer any last questions. Registration for orientation will be sent via email.

See 2026 information below:

Students will take one virtual mini course on Zoom for three weeks. Courses are ungraded and not for academic credit; instead, students will learn about majors and career options! Students are required to attend each mini course session on June 23rd, 25th, 30th, and July 2nd, 7th, and 9th from 5pm-6:30pm.

Students must attend each mini course session from 5-6:30pm in order to attend the campus visit. Students can attend optional office hours with faculty immediately after from 6:30-7pm.

Students can select their course preferences after attending orientation. While preferences will be considered, we cannot guarantee that your first preference will be your assigned course.

If there is a special circumstance and/or emergency preventing a student from attending a scheduled mini course session, please reach out to the I2A team at [email protected]

See 2026 information below:

After completing the mini course, students will attend a campus visit at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Students from Detroit, Ypsilanti, Lansing, and the Shiawassee area will be on campus Saturday, July 11th 9am-5pm. Students from the Upper Peninsula will be on campus overnight from Friday, July 10th-Sunday, July 12th.

Transportation, meals, and snacks are provided for all students. Lodging will be provided for students from the Upper Peninsula. We will designate one pick up spot in each region (Negaunee, Lansing, Shiawassee Area, Ypsilanti, and Detroit), and students will be responsible for their own transportation to their designated pick up spot.

While on campus, students will build community with current college students, learn about educational opportunities and resources (including different types of colleges, application requirements, financial aid, and more!), and experience a college campus.

Students from the Upper Peninsula will share a dorm room at West Quadrangle residence hall with another GROE with I2A student of the same gender. Students will have the option to select a preferred roommate if they have one. See more details about staying on campus overnight on our FAQs page.

See 2026 information below:

Students will present what they have learned at a virtual showcase. The showcase will take place on July 14th from 5-6:30pm to hear about students’ experiences and celebrate their participation in GROE with I2A.

After GROE with I2A, students can opt-in to receive free, personalized, college coaching from I2A Ambassadors throughout the fall. Coaching sessions will be held virtually on Zoom and scheduled at times that work best for each student.

During GROE with I2A, students will create Lettersmith accounts. Lettersmith is a free tool to help students draft, revise, and write essays for college and job applications. Students can also request free, personalized feedback from I2A Ambassadors as many times as they’d like!

Hear from past Lettersmith users:

“The tips and examples gave me an idea of what to write.”

“I learned about Lettersmith, and how helpful it is when it comes to writing college essays.”

“I like how I can get feedback from ambassadors.

GROE with I2A students commit to participating in all parts of the program: mini course + campus visit + showcase.
