Daniel Forger, the Robert W. and Lynn H. Browne Professor in Science, Director of MCAIM, and Professor of Mathematics, has been named a 2026 Guggenheim Fellow. He is one of four University of Michigan faculty selected this year, among 223 recipients across the U.S. and Canada.

Forger’s fellowship will support a project using applied mathematics to better understand music, bringing together mathematical methods with insights from music theory and neuroscience. Awarded annually since 1925 by the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, Guggenheim Fellowships are widely recognized as a major honor for mid-career scholars, artists, and scientists who have demonstrated exceptional productivity and creative promise.
